A General Guide on Radio Range.

The operating range of any radio system depends on terrain, power, antenna efficiency and many other factors. Actual performance will vary depending on local conditions, but it is possible to generally predict range under average conditions in an urban area. The following calculations have been prepared on the presumption that the "BASE" or "REPEATER" station antenna is situated 100' above average terrain utilizing commonly available low loss transmission cable and high gain antenna systems. Average ground conductivity, smooth earth, and normal urban noise conditions have been assumed.
